I just saw Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.
This PoC is like any other in the franchise: amazing actors, amazing costumes, amazing SFX, reaching storyline, & mediocre storytelling.
Johnny Depp is simply the best, the mermaids are like vampire fish who just happens to be played by top models, no biggie, and Gemma Ward’s voice is nothing like I imagined. She’s still beautiful though. It’s not bad, just don’t bother seeing it in 3D; such cheap tricks!!! The missionary guy was cute though (he reminded me of Nicholas Holtz slightly, though I was confused about his character the entire time…) and his mermaid gal-pal is also very pretty. In fact, I felt that was their entire relationship, two pretty people falling for each other’s beauty. I blame the story telling.
The problem with these PoC movies is that they’re trying to tell too grand a story. The movies are long, let’s not take any credit away from that, but there just isn’t enough time to explore every branch of the storyline and develop every character.  This is what, the fourth movie now? I’m finally understanding Jack and Barbosa beyond their quirky relationship and pirate ways. Just mediocre storytelling, I tell ya!
On top of that, the entire time I was watching the movie, I kept referencing One Piece for all the Black Beard stuff. =__=
But if you love Johnnny Depp and his version of a pirate, like I do, and just want 2 hours of good fun, watch it. Again, don’t bother with the 3D!
